Voltaire Bronze Seal
About: A bronze seal after the beloved writter, poet, author and antagonist extrodinaire, François-Marie Arouet, known by his nom de plume M. de Voltaire. This bust is modeled after the famous sculpture by Houdon and cast by Ferdinand Barbedienne.
This piece was intended to be used as an engraved wax seal, a form of ‘postal’ security while documents were dispatched. This example appears to be a blank.
Why We Love It: He’s so highly detailed, a hallmark of Barbedienne’s pieces, and weighty. Further, the seal’s platen was never engraved, giving you the opportunity to customize him yourself!
Condition: Very nice original condition though likely has been polished a time or two in his life.
