Traditional Swiss Alpine Chair
About: This Alpine chair is a traditional form specific to Switzerland and, given the carved heart detail, was likely presented (or crafted) as a marriage gift from a family member. Given the appearance and patina this piece probably dates to the late 19th Century. The craftsman’s hands are on full display, having through tenoned legs, back and somewhat naive form. Made of solid pine.
Why We Love It: Patina and age galore! This would look wonderful in a corner holding a planter or vase with flower arrangement…. we vote for edelweiss!
Condition: The seat shows generous wear patterns and marking as shown. The legs have been re-glued at some point and the front left facing leg at the foot has splintered a bit. It’s very sturdy but probably not an everyday chair.
Dims: 37.5” Tall at the back with a 19.5” seat height. 22” Wide x 19” Deep at the base. 19” Wide x 14.5” Deep seat.
Location: Sperryville., VA
