Perseus & Pegasus after Émile Louis Picault

$625.00

About: A grand statement piece for your Grand Tour interior, this table lamp cast after Émile Louis Picault’s dramatic depiction of Perseus and Pegasus with the head of Medusa, features a perfectly aged matte grey patina owing to it’s composition: cast spelter, a zinc-lead alloy traditionally used in decorative arts for its low melting point.

The base of the lamp includes text: “E. Picault, Salon de Beaux Arts 1888”. This piece likely started its life as a stand alone sculpture and later electrified.

Why We Love It: The sculpture alone is a wondrous work of art and to see it in shades of grey is especially tantalizing. The movement of the characters and references to ancient Greek Mythology are some of our favorite themes. The laurel wreath finial completes the look.

Condition: Excellent overall condition with some de-laminating of brass ormolu at the base. The silk shade is in decent condition and shows minimal wear.

Dims: 39” Overall Height x 11” Wide base. Sculpture alone is 23” H

Location: Philadelphia, PA
