Make-do Welded Andirons
About: This is a pair of steel andirons or fire dogs, fashioned of hexagonal bar stock crudely welded together and completely lacking in polish or finish.
Why We Love It: Here, the welder…dare we say artist, …. has taken an otherwise pedestrian material to use for perfectly functional intent but has assembled it in such a manner with great eye for scale and form. These andirons are individually minimalist yet sculptural and together make for an excellent geometric composition …. with a slightly primitive vibe. The idea of unrecognized genius and subconscious shaping of ideas are at play and we love it.
Condition: Some pitting with original gray paint. We’ve left them as found but they would look great in black.
