Leatherworker's Bench

$245.00

About: This is a homemade leatherworking bench (likely for saddle making) c.1860. The thick plank seat includes integral box and is supported by hand shaven ash legs (as in spoke making, not hair removing). The legs are through tenoned into the plank seat and retain a bit of dark green paint / stain. The entire piece retains a rich matte depth from years of continuous use.

There likely would have been an upright clamp in one of the seat voids for holding the leatherwork piece in-place.

Why We Love It: These benches make great entry-way pieces or, use it at the end of your bed. This one has a glorious;y rich patina and we can imagine this being purpose built by the leatherworker himself.

Condition: TONS of character, nicks, dings and patina as shown. The bench is sturdy though we wouldn’t recommend standing on it. Sitting is fine.

Dims: 39.25” Long x 17” Wide at the feet x 21.5” Seat Height. Plank Seat is 7.25” Wide

Location: Sperryville. VA
