Jean Who Cries Bust

$125.00

About: This is a diminutive bust in copper with worn silverplate after Jean Antoine Houhdon’s famous sculptures: ‘Jean Who Laughs, Jean Who Cries’. Houdon’s sculptures brought Voltaire’s famous poem, “Jean qui pleure et qui rit” , to life. Voltaire’s poem (1772) is commentary on humanity’s ability to be an emotional roller coaster in a single day.

The tiny bust sits on a socle (plinth) of its own material which is further mounted on a secondary turned black lacquered wooden socle.

Why We Love It: If you hadn’t guessed, we love little desktop articles, especially busts and figures evocative of the Grand Tour eras, classical Rome, Greece and even France.

Condition: Perfectly worn showing considerable wear to the silver finish and less to the wooden base. Just the way we like it, an honest life.

Dims: 4” H x 1.5” Diameter base.

Location: Philadelphia, PA
