Early Schoolhouse Pine Desk
About: This stunning survivor dates to the 1800s and comes to us from the Piedmont region of Virginia, likely Madison County. Heavy pine construction intended to stand the test of time with original steel hinges. Especially of note is the wide single panel top.
Why We Love It: Just look at it! It appears every child to ever use it carved their own markings in the surface (back when kids carried pen knives). It’s especially nice to see the change in font styles over the years: interiors with early carved/written stylized serif letters.
Condition: Sturdy and very presentable and could still be used for storage. The surface with layers of paint and carvings throughout.
