Early Painted Dough Bowl

$95.00

About: This early dough bowl has been lovingly painted in black with floral motifs to the interior. It’s hand turned in beech or soft maple and dates to late the 19th Century

Why We Love It: Primitive wooden dough bowls are quite common but we had yet to see one in black with painted flowers. It was a common practice in the 1940s to decorate housewares with a black background and flowers, especially in rural areas but most prominently in Pennsylvania. Perhaps this piece was decorated around this time period.

The black with faded flowers imparts a moodiness we love.

Condition: The bowl shows shelf & table wear which adds to the charm and depth. No repairs or cracks.

Dims: 12.5” Wide x 4.5” Deep

Location: Sperryville, VA
