Early Painted Chest
About: This is a southern pine box in a simple red and green painted diamond pattern. The interior features a superbly scripty makers signature and the year 1835.
The paint was likely added later (though many many years ago) as evidenced by the filled-in lock position and overpainting.
Why We Love It: Painted trunks are fairly common but few and far between are done in strong graphic patterns, which this example exudes.
Condition: Expected nicks and dings abound with some loses to paint along high touch areas. The lock appears to have been moved at some point. The paint has a perfect orange peel-like texture in some areas. Displays nicely and works as intended.
