About: This is a gouache painting on paper cardstock of a child with a toothache c. 1950s. Using only black, white and grey tones, the artist perfectly captured a sad young child amidst oral distress.

The frame is of solid grain brushed oak with off white matting, weighted at the bottom for visual effect. Of interest, there is a John Wannamaker label to the reverse indicating an approximate framing time period of the 1950s. We acquired this piece in Pennsylvania.

Why We Love It: Norman Rockwell and Dennis the Menace vibes for sure! The child looks to have stepped right out of 1950. His freckles, the stylistic head bandage…all amazing.

Condition: Frame with some paint splatter as shown. Portrait in excellent condition, free of stains, repairs etc.

Dims: Frame: 21.25” H x 17” W. Image: 9.75” H x 9” W

Location: Sperryville, VA
