Victorian Turner's Chair

$275.00

About: This is a late 19th Century triangular “turner’s” chair, ostensibly called so for the many turnings composing the piece, where parts would have been turned on a lathe by a skilled craftsman. The form is also often seen in more intricate “spindle” chairs and have been around, either hand carved or machine turned, since the 17th Century.

The Victorians were great fans of the latest technology, utilizing engines to turn and shape woods. This fact is evidenced by the intricately formed gingerbread parts on classical Victorian homes of the period.

Why We Love It: These three legged corner chairs are such interesting forms, albeit very specific in nature. The warm wooden turned stiles and rales have taken on a lovely patina. The perfect addition to a Victorian house parlor and certainly a conversation piece.

Condition: Excellent, free of break or repairs and with a nice patina.

Dims: 21” Wide x 19” Deep. 19” Seat Height and a 34” Back Height.

Location: Sperryville, VA
